Create a presentation from a topic
The core feature of Slides AI by DocGPT is generating a complete Google Slides deck from a single topic. Open your presentation, go to Extensions → AI GPT for Slides → Start, type a topic, set the options, and generate.
Writing a good topic
The topic field steers everything the AI writes, so be specific:
- Name the subject and the angle. “Remote onboarding checklist for engineering managers” produces a more focused deck than “Onboarding”.
- Include the audience when it matters. “Explaining GDPR basics to a marketing team” gets simpler wording than the topic alone.
- State the goal if there is one. “Pitch: why we should switch to quarterly planning” tells the AI to argue a position, not just describe one.
- Keep it to one subject. If you need two subjects, generate two decks or add detail through the additional content field — see Create slides from text.
Choosing the number of slides
You set the slide count before generating. As a rule of thumb:
- 5–7 slides — a short update, a single idea, a lightning talk.
- 8–12 slides — a standard meeting presentation with room for context and next steps.
- 13+ slides — training material or a detailed walkthrough; consider splitting very broad subjects into separate decks instead.
Fewer slides give the AI more room per slide; more slides spread the topic thinner, so broad topics fit longer decks better than narrow ones.
What the generator produces
Every generated deck is built from three layout types:
- Title slide — a title and subtitle for the deck.
- Bullet-point content slides — the body of the presentation.
- Image + text slides — mixed layouts that pair a visual with supporting text.
All of it consists of native Google Slides objects: you can reword text, move elements, change the theme, and export to PPTX or PDF via the normal File → Download menu.
Example topics with recommended settings

|---|---|---|---|
| “Q3 marketing results and Q4 priorities for the leadership team” | 8 | Professional | Add your actual numbers via the additional content field |
| “Introduction to composting for a community workshop” | 10 | Friendly | Broad how-to subject, benefits from more slides |
| “Pitch: subscription pricing for our mobile app” | 6 | Persuasive | Short and focused works best for pitches |
| “New employee IT security training” | 12 | Formal | Training content; longer deck, one rule per slide |
| “Nuestro plan de lanzamiento para el mercado español” | 8 | Professional | Set the output language to Spanish to generate the deck natively |
