SightPause
SightPause was previously published on the App Store as "Eye Break Reminder". This policy covers all versions of the app.
This Privacy Policy describes how SightPause ("we", "our", or "the App") handles your information when you use our macOS application.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 We Do Not Collect Personal Data
SightPause is designed with your privacy as a priority. We do not collect, store, or transmit any personal information. The app operates entirely on your device.
1.2 Data Processed Locally
The following data is processed and stored only on your device:
- Break schedule preferences (work duration, break duration, intervals)
- Posture and blink reminder settings
- Auto-Pause and idle tracking preferences
- Appearance customizations (themes, break screen backgrounds)
- Sound effect and notification preferences
- Office hours and schedule configurations
- General app settings (launch at login, menu bar display)
This data never leaves your device and is not accessible to us.
1.3 Information We Do NOT Collect
We do not collect, transmit, or store:
- Personal identification information
- Location data
- Contact information
- Usage analytics or tracking data
- Device identifiers
- Browsing or search history

1.4 Purchase Information
If you subscribe to SightPause:
- All payment processing is handled exclusively by Apple through the App Store
- We do not have access to your payment information, credit card details, or Apple ID
- Purchase receipts are validated locally on your device through Apple's StoreKit framework
- Subscription status is managed entirely by Apple's subscription infrastructure
2. How the App Works
SightPause functions entirely locally on your Mac:
- Break Timer: Tracks work intervals and schedules eye breaks using local timers on your device
- Break Screen Overlay: Displays full-screen break reminders locally without transmitting any data
- Posture & Blink Reminders: Sends periodic wellness nudges through local system notifications
- Auto-Pause: Detects user idle state through local system events (mouse, keyboard activity) to automatically pause and resume the break timer
- Notifications: Break reminders and wellness nudges are handled by the local macOS notification service
- Custom Backgrounds: User-selected break screen images are stored in the app's local sandboxed container
3. Microphone Access
SightPause 1.1 and later do not request microphone access. Earlier versions (published as "Eye Break Reminder") could request it for the following purpose:
- Active Call Detection: The app checks whether your microphone is currently in use by another application (such as video conferencing or phone calls) to automatically pause break reminders during meetings
- The app does not record, store, or transmit any audio data
- The app does not listen to or process the content of your conversations
- The microphone permission is used solely to detect active usage status β no audio data is ever captured
- This feature was optional and could be disabled in the app's settings
You can manage microphone permission at any time in System Settings > Privacy & Security > Microphone.
4. Data Storage and Security
Your data is protected by Apple's built-in security measures:
- All app data is stored in the app's sandboxed container
- Data is protected by your device's FileVault encryption
- No data is transmitted to external servers
- Uninstalling the app removes all associated data from your device
5. Third-Party Services
The App uses only the following Apple services:
- Apple App Store: For app distribution and updates
- Apple StoreKit: For processing subscription purchases
- Apple UserNotifications: For break reminders and wellness nudge alerts
We do not integrate any third-party analytics, advertising networks, or tracking services.
6. Permissions
SightPause may request the following permissions:
- Notifications: To alert you about upcoming breaks, posture reminders, and blink reminders (optional)
- Microphone (versions before 1.1 only): To detect active calls and automatically pause break reminders during meetings (optional)
- Login Items: To optionally launch the app at system startup
- Accessibility: To detect user input activity for Auto-Pause (optional)
All permissions are optional and can be managed at any time in macOS System Settings.
7. Children's Privacy
SightPause is safe for users of all ages. We do not collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13. The app contains no user-generated content, social features, or external links beyond this privacy policy and support contacts.
