FAQ Schema Markup Template
Generate valid FAQPage JSON-LD from Q&A columns in Google Sheets with =GPT() and =GPT_TABLE(). Free AI template for FAQ schema markup across many pages.
Hand-writing JSON-LD for fifty pages means fifty chances to misplace a brace. This template turns plain Q&A columns into ready-to-paste FAQPage markup, one page per row — the same markup this page itself uses.
Layout
| Column | Content |
|---|---|
| A | Page URL or topic |
| B–G | Question / answer pairs (Q1, A1, Q2, A2, Q3, A3) |
| H | Generated JSON-LD block |
The formulas
Draft the Q&A first if you don’t have it — headers Question, Answer in B1:C1 on a drafting tab:
=GPT_TABLE("6 frequently asked questions with concise 2-sentence answers about [your topic]", B1:C1)
Convert Q&A pairs into markup (H2):
=GPT("Convert these question-answer pairs into one FAQPage JSON-LD block per schema.org, wrapped in a script type=application/ld+json tag. Return only the code, no commentary, no markdown fences.", TEXTJOIN(" | ", TRUE, B2:G2))
Paste the result into your page’s <head> or body, or map column H to a CMS field on import.
Variations
- From existing FAQ pages: paste the visible FAQ text into one cell and let the same conversion prompt structure it — no need to split into columns first.
- Answer length control: rich-result answers should be concise; add “trim each answer to under 300 characters, keep meaning” to the conversion prompt.
- Other schema types: the same pattern generates HowTo or Product JSON-LD — swap the schema type in the prompt and feed it the matching columns (steps, or price and attributes).
Get started
- Install GPT for Sheets from the Google Workspace Marketplace (free tier included, no API keys needed).
- Copy the template or paste the formulas into your own sheet.
- Drag the formula down your rows, then use Replace all GPT formulas with results in the sidebar.

FAQ
Will the JSON-LD be valid?
The prompt pins the exact schema.org structure and forbids commentary and markdown fences, which handles the common failure modes. Still spot-check a few rows in Google’s Rich Results Test before shipping a large batch.
Can it write the FAQs too, not just the markup?
Yes — =GPT_TABLE() drafts question-answer pairs per topic into columns first, then the JSON-LD formula converts whatever Q&A columns contain, drafted or hand-written.
Does FAQ markup still earn rich results?
Google has limited FAQ rich results mostly to well-known authoritative sites, but the markup remains valid structured data that helps machines parse your content — and it costs one formula per page here.
